Compare Asrock B550 Pro4 and Gigabyte B550 DS3H models for performance and features.
I chose B550 for my Ryzen setup because it fits better. The two boards I picked are the Asrock B550 Pro4 mATX and the Gigabyte B550 DS3H. Both are Micro ATX, but the Asrock model offers superior IO—USB 3.2 Gen 2 type C plus type A. The Gigabyte has two M.2 slots (one PCIe Gen 4, one PCIe Gen 3), which is a plus, though I think I won’t use it for long. If I switch to NVMe, I’d stick to just one. I’m leaning toward paying the extra £10 for the Pro4 but would love your thoughts. What do you think?
Watch the video below. The GB only supports HDMI and DVI, whereas the Asrock offers three outputs (DP, HDMI, VGA). This could matter if you intend to connect it to a CPU with built-in graphics. The Asrock includes USB Type-C on the back and has two additional USB 3.0 ports. The GB VRM should theoretically perform better due to its five-phase design versus the Asrock’s three phases... but the components used in the Asrock are of higher quality, and its heatsink is significantly larger, allowing more effective cooling. Therefore, the Asrock model comes out ahead. Yes, the difference of about 10 pounds might be justified. Consider the Gigabyte B550M Aorus Pro—it’s likely to cost around 20-25 pounds more but could be a better value.
Ryzen 5 3600 with 16GB DDR4 RAM at 3200MHz, RTX 2070 graphics, and CL16 performance.
I've noticed this, I'm increasing my budget for that motherboard. I could have chosen the B450, but I thought the B550 was a better value. If funds permit, I'll explore the Aorus Pro; otherwise, I believe the Pro4 should work as long as you give your advice.
Currently, the cost is expected to be near £720, with a range of £90 to £100 for the motherboard.
PCPartPicker list shows various motherboard options. MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI fits within a reasonable range at £109.98 including shipping and taxes. The DS3H model is a solid choice. Gigabyte B550M DS3H offers the same specs for £87.66. Amazon UK prices for MSI B450-A PRO MAX are around £84.98, while the MSI B450M PRO-VDH costs about £69.98. The B550 Pro 4M is available but costs roughly £110 more than alternatives; it’s a good pick if you can stretch your budget.
Yes, since the b550 pro 4 costs 120 pounds, I’ll assume you’re not referring to it because it exceeds our budget.
