I purchased a 1TB external HDD to keep all the games I need for testing different computers. Steam often refuses to recognize the games even when placed in its apps, and it deletes them during downloads. How can I fix this? I installed Windows just so I could boot and work on it, but the issues persist.

Sorry, this name isn’t ideal—it tends to organize Steam library folders. You can access it via: Settings > Downloads (first choice). You might want to add the path of your downloaded Steam games so it can recognize them automatically, avoiding the need to re-download everything.

Try installing Windows on another drive, boot from there, set up the Steam installation on the external drive, and then launch it. Adjust the library settings in Steam to point to the external drive. Games should now load from that location.
