my compaq presario cq50 115-nr heats up a lot after brief use, reaching about 95°C on the die and blowing warm air at 60–70°C. i disassembled it and cleaned it, but the issue persists. the cooler is quite powerful too. anyone have ideas to reduce the temperature? specs are nvidia 8200m g athlon 64 x2 ql-60 (35w tdp), 2gb ddr2 667, running windows vista.

These have a reputation for weak adhesion, so you’ll need to focus on spreading the thermal paste thoroughly multiple times. They generate significant heat, though it’s still manageable.

I’ll handle it then. When the machine arrived, I was just under a year old, so I probably don’t recall how hot laptops were back then because I was still a little kid.
