I’m checking my best friend’s laptop and think Avast might have caused some crashes. I’m searching for something that works smoothly on a basic system with the latest Windows XP.

The software is problematic; it removes false positives by itself, lacks antivirus control, and a full scan is extremely slow. Additionally, Bitdefender has stopped providing updates and support, so no fixes or improvements will be made. For a lightweight option, consider Qihoo 360 Total Security, ESET, or Webroot.

Use BlueScreenView to verify if Avast is responsible for those BSODs.

It looks like the formatting was applied automatically, and after running malware samples and using Avast, a lot of output appeared.

Eset has been in use for many years without any problems. It was installed on an old Dell laptop with Windows 10, which is still functioning well after about nine years.

Oh yeah. They stopped supporting XP. Then idk, maybe Avast 5 or 6 (I'm actually using 6 Beta and I had no issues even on newer hardware). The latest is 9 or 10 I think. I'm not satisfied with the newest either

In any case, it’s no longer a problem—I can’t even get the device to connect to my home network. I’ve been trying for about 5 to 6 hours, but it’s still not working for some reason.
