Common game and system issues after a recent installation: Asus TUF 4090 paired with 7950x graphics card.
I assembled my PC roughly two months ago, and stability problems have been increasing lately. Initially, I faced occasional crashes or system failures, but they were rare. Recently, the issues have become more frequent, especially under heavy load such as gaming, when the graphics card reaches near full capacity. Some crashes display strange visual artifacts on the screen. I’ve attached images of these occurrences. I have three monitors, though only three are visible due to residual information on one. I've also dealt with several BSODs, but I don’t recall consistent error codes. Crash intervals vary—sometimes days apart, other times multiple within an hour.
My hardware includes:
- Asus Prime X670E-Pro Wifi (BIOS 1618)
- Asus 4090 TUF AMD 7950x Gskill Flarex5 @ 6000, 2x16GB Seasonic USA Vertex GX-1200 1200W 80 Plus Gold ATX
- Windows 10 Pro Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045
I replaced the original cooler with an EKWB waterblock and installed a full water cooling system. Under load, the CPU stays below 70°C while the GPU rarely exceeds 60°C. RAM is set to full speed via ECC, with no overclocking except for AI Overclocking in BIOS. I have four RAM sticks, but two stopped working suddenly about two weeks ago, showing a memory LED.
I’m using a protection plan from Microcenter for the GPU, but not for other components. I’d appreciate any suggestions on what might be causing these problems or steps to troubleshoot further. If you need more details about my setup, feel free to share.
EDIT: I ran a GPU stress test with OCCT and experienced a crash after just four minutes. The results were unusual—one screen showed artifacting, another triggered a BSOD (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and one froze completely. This suggests something is seriously wrong.
Noticing your PC fails to boot with 4 RAM sticks is a clear warning sign if it worked before. Here are some steps to check: 1. Update and install the latest BIOS from the Asus site—they note two revisions missing key AGESA memory fixes. 2. Run Memtest86 to test each RAM module individually. 3. Lower the RAM speeds during stress tests and retry. 4. If issues persist, verify power delivery—check if you're using the HVPWR cable. Consider switching to separate PCIe 8-pin connectors or adapters if your 4090 came with one, or vice versa if you don’t currently use HVPWR.
This RAM seems quite unreliable; consider updating the BIOS to check for stability. If that fails, try reducing the RAM speed by 100-200 MHz below the manufacturer's recommended rate.

I refreshed and reinitialized the BIOS, keeping everything at its default settings. I haven’t run any stress tests yet, but once the BIOS was updated, all four drives functioned right away. After a day or so, if everything looks good, I’ll acknowledge this as the solution.
