I'm purchasing a pair of RAM sticks (LPX) from a friend for $20 to upgrade my system running PNY. Both units are 16GB each, totaling 32GB. Their CLs differ slightly (15 and 16) and their speeds vary (3000 and 3200). If I can't push the RAM up to 3200 with XMP2, should I lower all four to 3000? Will that work? What are the chances the 3200 speed will function properly? Other thoughts on this situation??? Current setup by PCPartPicker edited February 15, 2024 by Sheperad306 – forgot to include setup info

It could work, though both kits are limited to a maximum clock of 3000MHz. Because of varying timing, the modules might operate slower for stability. If you prioritize capacity over speed, it's definitely worth a try.

It’s likely, though combining RAM can be more about skill than strict rules. You might run into problems at slower rates than XMP, or it could function perfectly fine. The best way to know is through testing. Generally, only a handful of memory chips can’t reach 3200MT/s.
