Combining 3000MHz with 3200MHz on a DDR4 chip
Hey everyone. I'm working with an MSI B550 Tomahawk and a Ryzen 5600X. At first I used two 8 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX sticks with XMP enabled. Both are in the dual-channel slots as recommended. Recently I swapped them out for two 8 GB Corsair Vengeance Pro sticks at higher speeds. In the BIOS I set timings to 3200 MHz and manually adjusted the FCLK to 1600 MHz. I've attached some screenshots from HWinfo and the BIOS for reference. So far I haven't noticed any problems except occasional random freezes when Edge launches. Performance is solid, no crashes during stress tests like Heaven Superposition or Cinebench. Benchmarks look good overall, especially after adding the extra sticks. I wasn't sure if tweaking the BIOS settings would help, but I'm not expecting major gains from a 3600 MHz build. Let me know your thoughts!
With the timings as they are now, I don't see a ton of room for improvement. I think the config is solid and if you're not having broad stability issues, no need to change anything. The only thing I would suggest in the case of some ram instability is a slight increase to voltage, but since Edge is the only issue, I'd suspect more a problem with that specific program than anything else.
