Hello, I opened my Asus R510VX to clean it because it was getting very hot and I saw the RAM soldered onto the motherboard. I looked up the model details online and found it was an 8GB 2133MHz with 16-16-16 timings. I considered upgrading to 16GB since there was an available slot, but only CL15 timings were listed. Can I mix different timings together?

The CL 15 operates at CL 16 velocity yet functions similarly even without XMP or comparable features.

It seems this laptop doesn’t have an XMP profile option, so plugging it in automatically might set it to CL16. Dual channel might still work even without enabling it.

All sticks operate based on the slowest one, placing it first. Your CL 16 is bonded to that position, so moving in should match its speed with the existing stick. If the order was reversed, adding CL 16 to a CL 15 would likely prevent your PC from starting.
