Hello everyone, two months ago I assembled my own PC and discovered too late that the RAM I purchased was "optimized for Intel XMP," whereas my CPU is an AMD Ryzen 5 7600. The RAM functioned, but I had to set its speed to 6000MHz in BIOS. Now I’m considering buying another RAM module—yes, I only bought one, but I’m unsure if it should match the same specs or if an AMD Expo-optimized one would be better. Thank you for your advice!

XMP optimized RAM functions perfectly with AMD CPUs, even when using Linux. Some users opted for GRBL instead of FlareX in their build with the 7800X3D. To be cautious, I’d choose identical RAM to ensure stability. The compatibility between XMP and EXPO tuning isn’t clear yet.

If you prefer not to overthink it, trade in your existing stick for a fresh set. Combining RAM can feel more like an art than a precise process, especially with DDR5 where many factors can cause problems that make it risky to have both sticks function together. You might manage it if you're experienced and lucky, but it's not something I'd depend on for reliability. Also, a matching model number doesn't guarantee compatibility, as manufacturers often vary components based on their production conditions. Just because you bought the same model doesn't ensure it will fit your current setup. Regarding EXPO versus XMP, older BIOS versions had compatibility issues, but newer updates handle it smoothly. It was important back then because the motherboard optimized BIOS timing, but now XMP works consistently. Just apply a BIOS update and skip the debate.
