Hello gaming friends! I recently set up a new PC and encountered an issue that’s been bothering me: Coil whine. You can watch the recording here: https://youtu.be/4_dOPq70E_0 and https://youtube.com/shorts/NY78fSTKmZ4. The sound mainly appears when the GPU is working hard, not during idle. It doesn’t affect frame rates—I saw similar reports on other forums suggesting lower FPS helps. The noise isn’t coming from the GPU, as I tested with another system and it matched. It seems to be related to the CPU. I’ve tried several fixes: checking fans, disabling power-saving settings, updating BIOS, adjusting XMP settings, and changing the CPU power state. The current setup is: ASUS TUF GAMING B560M-PLUS CPU, i5-11400F, Arctic Freezer 34, eSports dual RAM, G.skill Aegis 3200, Samsung EVO 980 PRO, GTX 1650, SEASONIC CORE 650W, 80+ GOLD. Mods: Windows 11 Pro. What advice do you have? I’m especially sensitive to the sound, so any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Kery
Some coil whine appears, especially with the GPU or similar components, or if the power supply is inadequate. It might also come from the motherboard itself. Occasionally it’s just a matter of luck—either you experience it or you don’t, or the issue might be mild. If keeping the GPU stationary reduces the noise, it could help. You might also try adding support or stabilizing the part to minimize vibration and noise.
