I recently needed to replace the motherboard since my previous one stopped functioning (thanks to my cat). The computer ran well for about two days, then I tried booting today. The Gigabyte Aorus Pro z690 DDR4 Wi-Fi motherboard showed error code 96. According to the manual, this means "assign PCI Device Resources." My keyboard and mouse didn’t light up, and the screen didn’t appear. After removing the GPU (MSI 3080 10GB) and reinserting the SSD (970 Evo Plus), the system booted without the GPU. When I removed the GPU, the error returned. I then swapped it into another PC, which worked perfectly and displayed the GPU in BIOS. I uninstalled NVIDIA drivers and checked standard Windows drivers, but none resolved the issue—still seeing code 96. I can operate the computer without the GPU connected. Any advice would be appreciated. Updated: tried reinstalling Windows... still shows 96. Edited January 8, 2024 by Cooper Edginton
