Typical MMORPGs such as WoW, Guild Wars, Dark Age of Camelot, Everquest I and II are probably not the right fit for you and your friends. For a more social experience, Diablo II and III provide cooperative play options. My wife and I enjoyed full-scale MMORPGs where we could interact with others, or focus on farming alone or exploring independently as a duo or solo player.

She’s interested in action-packed adventures with quests, not a full gaming experience. She’d enjoy games that offer exciting missions and exploration.

Really, I think Zelda: Breath of the Wild would be ideal for co-op play—it’s an excellent experience when you’re gaming with someone else.

Then take a look at everquest II for example... the name is the program =) you can do solo questing, as duo, you have the option to wield swords/hammers/shields, or just fire arrows, or wiggle fingers for kabooms, or play the funny keep the red bar full healer type, or a hybrid... lots of classes and races to play... It's fantasy though... you can even craft, and start decorating "homes" =) there is a whole decorators community, and a world chat... Or if you both want something that can be competetive as well, dark ages of camelot which still has the best pvp ever. both aren't gun blazing games, but still boat loads of fun

Immerse yourself in Skyrim, restarting whenever you lose, finishing missions, anything you want.
