Our office computers use a screen lock enforced by company policy, which doesn’t serve any practical need in our setting. Previously, we used bar codes for scanning instead of passwords. I experimented by swapping them with programmable buttons that input the password and Enter key. It functions well and users appreciate it, though corporate IT security might not approve.

I’m seeking an alternative method. An ideal solution would be a compact device connected via USB to each computer. Operators could simply wave their badge near it to unlock the screen lock. This approach would cover around 200 machines, making it cost-effective despite the initial investment.

I’ve explored RFID, HID, and Bluetooth options, but they’re mainly suited for door access and numeric codes, which clearly won’t fit our requirements.

By the way, programmable buttons offer many useful possibilities! Anyone have ideas? Thanks ahead!

What you request is against the law. You must consult your corporate IT security team and obtain approval, maybe even discuss alternatives to the screen lock issue.

Additionally, your "programmable button" or intended "USB device" functions as long as the screen lock password stays unchanged. However, whenever that password is updated (which should occur at least every six months), your entire system becomes unstable.
