You can find cracked copies of Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4. Numerous players continue to enjoy those titles, and you can even join multiplayer in modified servers.

It varies by title. Many 90s releases are considered abandoned games, and you can usually get them legally if the rights holders have passed away or stopped selling.

Being out of the industry doesn’t automatically end your copyright protection. Plus, many firms could have been acquired, making their intellectual property belong to someone else.

Actually if there are no company behind to renovate it the copyright would expire after 25 years and that is the case of some really old game.
