You won’t require the console cable after setup, just a dedicated controller such as a 2504. After conversion, you can connect via SSH or HTTP(s) instead.

It’s connected to a PoE injector, through a switch, and into a Wi-Fi router I’ve been using for several months. However, I’ll require additional gear beyond what it originally came with.

They function as simple devices or access points when operating in lightweight mode. In this state, they act like basic hardware and the controller provides them with settings and instructions. You can transform an AP into a controller by applying an image referenced in the link I provided earlier, then link more APs which will operate in lightweight mode and receive their configuration from another AP in autonomous mode.
