I installed it a few months back by inserting a flash drive with Ubuntu. It’s not ideal, though. Chrome books often have very limited storage, which can be a challenge unless you use an external drive.

I've set up my Raspberry Pi with Ubuntu Mate and adjusted the swap size. It performs reasonably well—similar to an older laptop and quicker than a 5400 rpm drive. Using a Class 10 SD card really improved the speed.
