Chris Roberts discusses Derek Smart's work and impact.
Although he has addressed all his concerns, Chris Roberts has remained quite vague about Derek Smart. Some might view this as a strategic choice. In reality, I believe Chris perceives Derek as somewhat of a joke in the industry, especially after experiencing some of Derek's games firsthand. Still, it’s worth checking out the article here: http://www.pcgamesn.com/what-chris-rober...erek-smart.
What stands out is how Derek has been attempting to develop a Star Citizen-inspired game for years without much success; his most recent attempt was also planned for release last year. While acknowledging the presence of bugs, it’s clear that progress remains impressive since its launch, and fixes are typically implemented within a week.
The most impressive part is how Chris Roberts has maintained his calm. He was directly questioned about a manchild's attitude and responded in the most appropriate manner without lowering himself. The fewer we pay attention to that person, the better.
I think the guy deserves some bad press, I wouldn't go out looking to slig dirt in his face but CR finally spoke out and thought this was important. I mean Smart has a list of people that wants refunds of $10,000 but turns out its actually an old org list he's "borrowing". And then there's gamergate involvement (I'd rather not get into that)
He seems content to ignore comparisons with others, focusing instead on his own frustration. His discontent stems from feeling his ambitions can't match those of more prominent figures. He doesn’t offer clear explanations, just a general disapproval. If he wishes to be remembered for failure, that’s his fate. Strong leaders rise through hardship, while ordinary people are left to flicker.
It's a great reaction! 😄 Let me know if you'd like to discuss it further.
He mentions robots now, and it's hard to be sure he hasn't been compromised.
They're all a bit silly, but it's amusing to watch him react as he realized things had changed.
