choosing mesh wifi
choosing mesh wifi
I've accumulated enough extra money to install mesh Wi-Fi at home. I just need a few final adjustments to confirm everything is set correctly. My area is Vancouver, Canada. The provider is Telus with a second extender acting as a relay point—essentially linked to the main box under both 2.4G and 5G connections. These two devices are positioned at opposite ends of the house. Although it functions technically, Wi-Fi still suffers from many dead zones or weak spots with poor signal. My goal is to minimize these issues using a new mesh network. I've reviewed some options and understand that a mesh system should help cover those gaps, unify everything under one Wi-Fi name, and possibly improve speeds. I'm planning to use Wi-Fi 6 devices, aiming for Netgear Orbi or similar. Initially, I was considering Netgear ORBI but found it hard to locate Wi-Fi 6 models in the VSUN catalog. I’m leaning toward an Asus Ai Mesh setup with a new router and four nodes—using the Ax11000 as the central unit and Ax92U for the additional nodes. I chose Asus mainly because it’s easier to locate and install. My intention is also to replace the Telus cable modem, though finding Wi-Fi 6-compatible models seems challenging. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated before proceeding further?
