We possess gigabit fiber and currently use a nighthawk ac1900, but speeds remain disappointing. We invest heavily in this service yet don’t see sufficient value. Our home is outdated, lacking Ethernet in most rooms, making it nearly impossible to extend wired connectivity. What router would best boost performance? Is my setup adequate, or are there alternative solutions we could explore? I’m exhausted from paying $130 monthly for internet that only delivers 30 Mbps and 200–300 Mbps over Ethernet when possible. Please assist.

If the main issue is weak Wi-Fi coverage, I recommend Ubiquity AmpliFi to boost the signal. For a wired connection, expect challenges since the home is quite old.

I’d consider the amplifier more suitable if you can install Ethernet on other floors. Otherwise, a few Unifi AC Lite access points would provide better coverage.

The main benefit of AmpliFi is that it operates independently of LAN connections. However, if you have CAT6 cables available, UniFi can also function effectively. All devices join the same mesh network.
