I'm considering upgrading my motherboard, CPU, and memory for my gaming rig. AMD just released the 5000 series, which sounds promising but I still think Intel offers better performance at a similar price. My budget is roughly 500 to 600 euros for the CPU, RAM, and storage. ~300 euros should cover a solid setup for games like Warzone, Valorant, League of Legends, and Kerbal Space Program.

My main questions:
- Does higher clock speed really improve gaming performance?
- Are more cores or threads better for gaming? (Based on the games listed above)

the ryzen 5600x outperforms the 10900k in single-thread performance, a feature the 10900k had to offer. but that's all I can truly say until rocket lake is released.

Certainly Zen 3/Ryzen 5000 is still in development, so I’ll refer to Zen 2/Ryzen 3000 as the current reference. The data should remain useful when the new CPU launches. Yes, up to a certain limit. A 3600Mhz CL16 appears optimal for RAM right now; using more sticks than 2x8GB gives little extra benefit. Above that speed gains become marginal, so you get more cost for smaller improvements. For gaming specifically, 6 cores with multiple threads (similar to today’s Ryzen 5/Intel i5) usually suffices, while additional cores/threads aid other tasks like video editing, 3D work, recording, or streaming. Extremely uncommon to see 8+ cores delivering noticeable game performance improvements, though exceptions exist.

It's better to look beyond just the clock speed and check independent reviews. Benchmarks reveal real performance, not just numbers. Relying solely on clock speed is like judging a car by its wheel speed—it gives you a partial picture but misses the full story.

They claim their latest CPUs outperform Intel's current models (unoverclocked), and based on past performance it should hold up. Still, wait for real benchmarks! Your question would be clearer after the new processors launch, and we can give solid answers then.
