You're facing some instability with your PC and are weighing whether to revert to Windows 7 or keep using Windows 10. The main factor influencing this decision is the DX12 compatibility issue. Whether upgrading to Windows 10 is worthwhile depends on how critical that feature is for your current tasks. If it's essential, sticking with 10 might be better; otherwise, considering a reinstall of Windows 7 could resolve the lock-up problems.

For dx12 the speed boost is 10 over 7, and the start menu works fine unlike in version 8

I’m not seeing any performance boost since I lack an SSD. I also had to turn off fast boot because shutting down would cause my PC to restart repeatedly. Right now, drivers work well with Windows 7, which is likely why it’s performing better for me.

For 10, speed comes from using a solid drive rather than relying on SSDs. Even standard HDDs can perform well with good drivers. Many users struggle finding the latest ones and often rely on third-party tools like station drivers to access updated software.

Consider these problems when choosing an operating system. I suggest Windows 8 at a low cost on Reddit and using Classicshell via Ninite. My Windows 10 has its own challenges (Tomb Raider II doesn’t run), but I believe most issues will get fixed over time. For performance, skipping back to Windows 7 would be a good idea.
