The Tech Preview seems quite stable with many new features. You're experiencing random blue screens on your 8.1 system, which is also happening regularly.

It’s just a minor enhancement over Windows 8, adding a few new options without major changes.

For issues on Windows 8.1, it's unclear if they'll resolve with Windows 10 just wait for its official release

Run a trial and check if it functions well. I’ll likely set up the consumer preview of Windows 10 as my main system, similar to how I did with Windows 8.

I installed it on both machines with different hardware setups. One runs an overclocked i7-2600K and a 7970, while the other has a Trinity APU. Windows 10 has worked smoothly on both for me. If you dislike Metro, this OS is a solid choice. It shows up as Windows 8.1 in CCleaner, meaning it hasn’t undergone major changes yet. I haven’t faced any issues. Watching Asimov closely might worry some, but I don’t mind. If I needed to bypass security, Windows would be my default option.

I'll wait until it's complete. The preview won't help with the unavoidable driver issues. Once it's released, I'm starting to get it. My main worry is: It should either be a free upgrade from my retail version with full Windows 8.1 or a very affordable upgrade from there.

Waiting a bit too long... Is there any way to stop tracking? No option to opt out? It seems Kinect 2 is always active!

Asimov suggests it's not inherently malicious, though modern views question such assumptions. He explains it's a tool that examines basic computer operations to help Microsoft understand popular applications like gaming, video encoding, and YouTube. This data aids in refining the operating system based on usage patterns. He notes it could be used for detailed tracking, but warns against it being a surveillance measure by Microsoft, especially amid their ongoing disputes with the DOJ. He acknowledges uncertainty but feels it's not a major concern for him. Tek Syndicate is already testing it, which gives him confidence in its purpose. Cortana, on the other hand, seems far more intrusive.

Now that you note it, I bypassed a loophole in the installer that prevents it from requesting an account connection during installation. It simply installs the software, leaving you free to proceed. There’s no restriction if you don’t sign in, and you can eliminate much of the unnecessary bloatware that comes with it.
