i have a 7600k paired with a 1060 6 gb with 16gb of ram. im looking to play at 144hz. is it worth upgrading my cpu or waiting for intel's rocket lake. if i upgraded with the 11th gen whats a good mid level cpu to play 1080p at higher refresh rates. I've seen a lot of people talking about how good the i3 10100 is. any advice would be great. Definetly go for a 6c/12t CPU if you buy something new to upgrade. I'd say wait for the AMD R5 5600X (300$), a DDR4 16GB 3600MHz kit (75$) and get a decent B550 (150$) mobo to go with it. Release is on 5th November. 4-core CPUs are really starting to struggle these days. If you want to save money, you can still get a R5 3600 (170$) and get a big boost compared to a 7600K. Also remember to quote people, so they can see you replied. The lower the resolution, the higher the load on the CPU is. If you were to increase the resolution, the CPU is less of a factor.
Intel has already given up on its main advantage. With the Zen3 launch coming soon, they’ll also miss out on the single-threaded performance lead. It’s really not worth it—every budget option from AMD beats them out at some point.
Evaluating whether an i5 9400f is worth holding you for two more years depends on your needs and future upgrades. It offers solid performance for everyday tasks but may struggle with demanding workloads. Consider if you plan to upgrade to QHD or UHD displays soon—otherwise, a budget AMD chip could provide better value now.
