Choose PCIe 4.0 or ReBar based on your needs.
Hi, I have an MSI B450 Tomahawk motherboard paired with an RX 6650XT. The board officially supports PCIe 3.0, but I’ve flashed an older BIOS that enables PCIe 4.0. Testing via GPU-Z and 3DMark confirmed it’s running at PCIe 4.0. However, the newer BIOS removed PCIe 4 support, so I can’t use ReBar anymore—it requires a later version. Manually adding it causes Windows to freeze in an infinite boot when 4G mode is enabled. My concern is whether PCIe 4 offers real benefits over ReBar or if updating to the latest BIOS with ReBar would be better. My GPU supports up to PCIe 4.0 x8, which is essentially PCIe 3.0 x16. The older PCIe 3.0 x8 setup seems even less ideal. What’s the best path forward? Thanks!
They might have removed the PCIe 4 capabilities from the BIOS, suggesting the board wasn't a reliable or strong enough implementation. As noted earlier, you probably won’t encounter many (if any) issues at PCIe 3 speeds; the reBar is likely to offer better performance.
Yes, there is ReBAR injection. It's a procedure used to treat certain conditions.
I tried this before, but when 4G Encoding is turned on in BIOS for Windows, it won’t boot and keeps looping forever.
Yes, the processor includes a graphics core for rendering visuals.
The B450 PCIe 4.0 compatibility was removed for a valid reason. The performance difference in these games is minimal, so upgrading to a newer UEFI with rebar might be more beneficial. The RX 6650 XT appears to be near the limit of PCIe 3.0 8x bandwidth, depending on the game.
