Which option works better for backing up your system? Windows 10 Pro tool versus Backupper. Remember this will create a fresh system image after updates and a clean install, stored on a USB 3.0 pen drive.

I rely on Windows 10's file history feature to revert changes.

I recommend Macrium Reflect. It's worked perfectly without any issues, and I even used it for a recent restore. It's also completely free for personal use.

They suggested this to someone from Overclockers. How does it differ from Backupper? I’ve used Backupper without problems and it performs well, so I might keep going unless you have more details.

It relies on your intended use. Considering the features, you're essentially weighing two options. Reflect Free offers incremental updates but lacks some capabilities, whereas Backupper doesn't disable this feature and supports cloning. Backupper Free can clone, while Macrium Free provides scheduled backups and network storage options. Understanding Backupper's documentation is challenging, especially regarding terms like "Universal Restore." It's unclear whether changes to hardware or partitions complicate restoration processes. The paid cloning feature appears included in Backupper, possibly through their partition assistant. Their PE creation tool might include drivers needed for your system, such as Ethernet access for NAS backups. For more details, you can check the official pages: http://www.disk-partition.com/download-home.html and http://www.backup-utility.com/download.html. Based on these insights, I opted for Macrium due to my confidence in its reliability.

Only to perform a system image backup for my dad, meaning a fresh install of Win 10 Pro x64 with all updates (up to xyz date) and drivers installed. No additional files. If you need to replace the hard disk drive, the backup image will still function. The unused space can be adjusted during restoration (unless it differs since v3.5). Their PE creation tool supports custom drivers, though it has some issues—boot sector failures have occurred. A workaround exists by using DiskPart in Windows and copying the boot sector from a Windows OEM install. Overall, it should work well. I plan to use Backupper for this task. I’m familiar with its operation and already have documentation ready for inclusion on his driver disk if updates are required.

Hey everyone, here’s an update. I tried the Windows system image recovery method for my dad’s laptop. If I had chosen a third-party tool, I’d suggest Macrium Free instead since Backupper isn’t performing well with Windows 10 right now. Pete

I understand you shared this on the overclockersUK forum too, so I won’t repeat what was said there.
