Both options work well and are available at no cost. Experiment with both and choose the one that suits you best. Once you're set up, interaction should be minimal—just click the play button when needed.

VMware Workstation offers consistent performance. Virtualbox tends to lag more, especially with Windows. The drivers in VMware improve hardware handling via the host system. In my past experience, Virtualbox showed higher latency compared to VMware. Whether it’s improved or configuration-related, VMware has consistently outperformed. For TTY Linux, speed and 3D rendering could be less critical, and VirtualBox might run more efficiently. Have you explored QEMU? It’s likely the most lightweight option, though VMware remains ideal for full OS execution.

You considered using a GPU pass-through feature, but QEMU without it performs poorly for 3D rendering, significantly worse than Oracle VirtualBox.

Certainly, you're right. VMware stands out not only for its 3D acceleration but also for its overall superior performance.
