Hey everyone, I just upgraded my GPU and noticed a big difference since I mostly render 3D in Blender with Cycles. My CPU is now an older i5-6500, which isn’t great. I’m considering a Ryzen 9 3900X upgrade, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it. Should I go for a cheaper Ryzen 7 3800X or 3700X instead? Or should I wait until Ryzen Gen 4 comes out in October? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

CPU specs: 4 cores, 3900x thread count, 24 threads; 3700x thread count, 16 threads. Gen 4 release planned for Christmas.

It's difficult to give a definite answer. You can either combine GPU and CPU for rendering or use just one. If you're relying on GPU rendering, it seems to operate with a single CPU core. That means upgrading your CPU won't offer much improvement. However, if all rendering tasks are handled by the GPU, then using a 3900x with its 24 threads would provide significant benefits. Deciding whether to wait is hard to predict due to potential delays.

You're considering a GPU upgrade for better performance, especially since Optix rendering isn't CPU-friendly. Upgrading could definitely improve the viewport experience during animations or baking tasks. It's worth weighing the benefits against the cost of a more powerful CPU versus the gains from the GPU.

I'm not sure, since I don't personally use Blender. From what I recall in some videos, using a good SSD or cache could help. But I haven't confirmed that myself. I hope someone can add their thoughts.

I play games a bit but looking at benchmarks I don’t think it’s worth getting the Ryzen 9 3900X.

You might want to consider seeking more guidance or advice from others in the situation. What do you think would help?
