I've been exploring options and was planning on getting a Z490 with a 10700 chipset, but it's unavailable everywhere in Malaysia. I considered alternatives like an i7-11700K ($460) or a Ryzen 7 5800X ($568), though both are hard to find. They offer similar performance between the two models, with boost speeds around 4.9–5.0 GHz. The 5800X is quicker but more expensive. Prices shown are in US dollars, which are often higher here due to local market factors.

The straightforward choice is the 11700. If you're not aiming for overclocking, that's the best option. I'd prefer the 11700k, even without manual tweaks—it would perform better naturally.

The i7 11700K starts at around 3.6 GHz, while a 11700 is typically lower at 2.5 GHz. Intel's Turbo Boost technology allows their chips to increase speed dynamically, but when both are boosted, the difference can reach about 4.9 to 5.0 GHz.

Great suggestion! However, I'm still receiving a z590 for the 11700. It's okay to enjoy what you like.

In earlier years it might have been helpful, but this generation unlocked RAM overclocking for B560 and H570, meaning you can achieve faster speeds without buying more expensive RAM if that was your goal for Z590. If you're paying extra just for the sake of it, I recommend considering the 5000 series Ryzen instead.

I've been considering this all along—does B550 still face the USB problem?

AMD announced a BIOS update aimed at resolving potential issues, expected by early April. Based on my experience with previous systems, I haven’t encountered this problem yet, suggesting it might be rare.

I checked the prices for 5800x versus B550 and 11700 versus z590—it’s about $91 apart. I didn’t include the b560 since it’s hard to find in my area, especially in Malaysia.

Based on this analysis, if the i7 offers similar value, I suggest choosing the i7 over the Ryzen 7. Their performance levels are quite comparable, and they both work well with a strong graphics card.
