I'm working from home now with a setup built mostly from old components. What used to be a Lenovo mini PC connected to a tube TV has turned into my personal workstation. It runs a PC assembled from spare parts, giving it some unusual specifications. I have an InWin CK709 case, an LG BU40N BDXL drive, a low-profile MSI Radeon RX 460 with unlocked cores via BIOS tweaks, an Asus B85M-F motherboard, and an i5 4590 processor. I also have an i7 4750HQ CPU available if I need to upgrade. In terms of raw performance, the i5 4590 edges out the i7 4750HQ because its 128MB L4 cache provides a solid IPC advantage, even at lower clock speeds. It runs quieter and cooler in the compact CK709 case, which is perfect for this setup. The i7’s multi-threading helps compensate for its single-core limitations. If I really wanted better speed, swapping it in would be an option.
Regarding your question about the i7 4750HQ: it's a BGA mobile CPU and is soldered directly onto the laptop, so it can't be installed in a standard socket like the 1150 board.

The added head spreader matches the height of any other LGA 115X chip. It works with regular coolers and requires no special mounting. This unit is placed in a socket, though since it's a Lenovo Tiny PC it lacks a standard cooler mount, but the original cooler for Lenovo still fits perfectly.
This component perfectly matches the stock mount design. I've had this chip since 2019 and I'm confident about its placement. The main consideration is that certain desktop board BIOS versions don't include the microcode needed for this CPU, which appears to be a problem only with Gigabyte boards.
If everything else is fine, I’d pick the i7 instead of the i5. A 4/4 won’t last much in 2022.
