Hello everyone! The narrative follows this pattern: I kept encountering errors while editing videos in Davinci Resolve, eventually discovering the problem was related to RAM. Each time usage exceeded 10.6 GB (out of 16 GB on one stick), the program would freeze and display an error. I considered replacing the memory but now think a full dual-channel upgrade might be better. While researching, I struggled to decide between frequency or latency. At first, I thought a DDR4 3600MHz CL18 kit would suffice, but others suggested it could match a 3200MHz CL16. All kits are from Kingston (Fury), no RGB, and I run games like BF Series, God of War, and WoT alongside Adobe Lightroom and VMware Workstation. My setup includes a Ryzen 9 3900 with 4100Mhz, an Asus B450 Gaming Plus, GTX 1070 8GB, and a 144Hz monitor. Is it better to invest in a 3600MHz CL16 or stick with the 3200MHz option?
The issue with Davinici Resolve might stem from factors other than single-channel memory. Consider disabling your CPU overclock and turning off XMP as well as any GPU overclocks to determine if the problem continues. If it remains unresolved without overclocks, your RAM might be faulty—though it could also be another issue. Once stability returns, gradually reintroduce components one at a time until you identify the culprit. Switching to dual-channel will likely boost performance noticeably compared to single-channel, even if the gains are modest beyond 3200 CL16 on Zen 2. For DDR4 systems, upgrading to 3600 CL18 offers similar value for money. The Teamgroup kit I used previously performed exceptionally well; ensure both components are optimized for each other. Infinity fabric speeds rely heavily on RAM speed, so maximizing both will yield the best results (provided stability is maintained). However, Ryzen processors also depend on low latency, so pushing memory timings excessively for high clock speeds isn't always advantageous.
