Consider the installation method and structural needs when deciding between punch-down blocks and couplers for your wall plates. Each has its own advantages depending on the setup.

Preferences and upkeep vary widely. Most homes and buildings still use keystone jacks, but for areas like server rooms where you need to connect all lines with couplers, long-term maintenance is simpler. Using couplers avoids the hassle of punch-down strips, which become unusable if a jack fails. Wall jacks that wear out from frequent coupler use are easier and quicker to replace. This has been my experience.

It varies based on your situation. When you can precisely determine the required run size, using ready-made keystone couplers makes the process straightforward and reduces time plus mistakes if connections aren't properly terminated. If measuring is tough or you prefer to bypass that step, drilling a solid core and driving it down works better.

I used the wall plate connectors. I connected Cat5e cable, but the couplers indicated Cat6 would be required. Would this create an issue?

I tested the wall plate couplers and used Cat5e cable. The couplers indicated Cat6, but there’s no issue—just ensure the cable matches the recommended standard.

well i've tried to use the couplers and the connections work up until the couplers. Example, the cord running through the wall that would plug into the back of the coupler will give my device internet but, as soon as i plug the coupler into that cord and plug another Ethernet cord from the front of the coupler to the device no signal.

I've attempted to use the couplers, and the connections function properly until the couplers themselves. For instance, the cable passing through the wall that connects to the back of the coupler provides internet access, but once I connect the coupler to that cable and then plug another Ethernet cable from the front of the coupler into the device, no signal is detected.

Have you tested the pre-terminated cables? They might not function properly.
