I understand many prefer a full ATX board in an ATX case, but I'm curious—does switching to a mATX save you some cash? I don’t care about fancy designs or port counts; just want the case to fit well. In Australia, the price gap between the budget Gigabyte B650M and the B650 is roughly $50–60 AUD. Any opinions?
IMO it really hinges on the specific application and cooling requirements. I choose ATX for my gaming PC because I need a 360mm AIO along with three additional fans to ensure strong airflow. Also, most mATX models lack sufficient M.2 or PCIe ports if those are essential. If I can accommodate that in an mATX design, that’s fine. Otherwise, saving space is a solid choice as long as it doesn’t hurt overall performance. As long as you have all necessary slots for M.2, PCIe, etc., everything works out. Edit: Upon clarification, I realized you were referring to mATX versions of the same board. Edit #2: I reviewed the Gigabyte B650 Elites... mATX typically features a 12+2+1 VRM for 60A, while ATX uses 14+2+1 for 70A. It appears mATX can differ significantly from ATX, so it’s important to compare thoroughly. My other considerations remain valid when making purchases, keeping in mind minor adjustments without major impacts.
