Goth and others still have a decent group of players keeping the game running. Even after the updates, I still find it odd how many people stick around for 3. Compared to the past, it feels cleaner with 4 now—unlike the rough start of BF3 when it launched.
I'm playing BF4 since it's the latest title. I've also been through a lot of BF3, but I've grown a bit bored with it. Still, I think BF3 remains a superior experience, especially for its infantry gameplay.
