Choose between AMD and Intel for your computing needs.
If planning a new PC build, consider Ryzen 7000 or a 13th generation CPU. Use all available data to help decide based on your needs. The timing of this post doesn’t affect the advice.
I'm testing my magic ball to see which one works better. Note: We can't suggest anything about topics we don't know.
Let’s consult the Magic 8 Ball. We’ll check back soon for more answers.
We observed the capabilities of the Ryzen 7000 at Computex, which left us somewhat underwhelmed. The single-core speed is only slightly above the i9 12900k, making the Intel 13th Gen a more attractive option unless Intel makes further mistakes. [Or if AMD offers a better deal, but I’m skeptical] Here’s what AMD shared: 16-core 7950X versus 16-core 5950X. The 7950X reached 5.5GHz with DDR5 6000MHz CL30, while the 5950X hit 4.9GHz using DDR4. The combined boost was around 15%, but the frequency gap between the chips exceeds 10%. That means the IPC gain this generation is only about 5%. It’ll be interesting to see if the 5800X3D outperforms these newer models in certain titles.
It's frustrating to choose without understanding the full picture. From AMD's display at Computex, the Ryzen 7000 seems weaker and more similar to Zen3+. We'll have to wait for an official announcement from Intel on the 13th generation. While I doubt Intel will disappoint as much as AMD, it's possible they might not be the first to fall short. Once we see what comes next, you'll know better what to expect, but pricing will still be unclear—this is likely the most important factor for a purchase decision.
