Hi, sorry for the delayed response. I almost missed checking it. My current setup is a Tomahawk B450 Max, so an upgrade would be necessary even if I switch to another AM4 CPU. I don’t have a microcenter nearby, so I’d have to cross the Atlantic for that. I’m unsure about the budget but am considering whether it’s worth it and maybe thinking about my birthday.

You're considering upgrading from a B450 to a B550 tomahawk. It's hard to say exactly how much the difference will be without testing it yourself, but generally, a B550 offers more power and durability compared to the B450.

DLSS doesn't significantly boost my FPS from balanced to performance or ultra performance. It seems the issue lies more with RAM or CPU limitations. I'm unsure if upgrading RAM alone or going all-in is the best approach.

Upgrading to a CPU and RAM on a B450 might still work, but it doesn’t seem like the best move right now. Switching to AM5 could be better, though it might not be worth it immediately. Perhaps it’s worth considering later.

It makes no sense to swap the motherboard. If you do, choosing AM5 would be a better option.

Thank you! I’ll take your word for it. It seems a platform upgrade would be preferable if I have to replace everything, and I’d stay on the b450 with upgraded RAM and CPU.

The key distinction between B550 and B450 lies in PCI-E 4.0 support, while the 3080 model renders that detail irrelevant.

The B450 supports any AM4 CPU, so you don't have to upgrade to B550. You only need to change it if you move to AM5, as mentioned. I’d really like a 5700X3D with more RAM and would be happy with it.

In reality, most folks might disagree, but the 3600 stands out as a powerful CPU from AMD. It really pushed Intel forward and helped boost AMD's presence at the time. I tested it and found it to be slightly quicker in real-world situations, though my 5800x3d actually performed better in Superposition. I’m still content with my 5800x3d, but it seems like the upgrade wasn’t essential. I first installed it on a B350 board without any problems, and it matched my current B550 setup in terms of performance. The B350 BIOS was particularly slow, so that was a big factor.
