I would delay the launch a few weeks to allow M$ to address any issues that arise during the initial weeks of Windows 10. Also, keep in mind that Windows 10 isn’t available right away—it takes about three months.

If you prefer Windows 8.1 with 8.1, the most reliable way to check is by testing the technical preview. I’d rather own a couple of the latest full retail copies so I can easily transfer it between devices (since Full Retail keys aren’t tied to the hardware). This also helps avoid issues with the search bar and Cortana.

You can apply the same notification email to both systems, but you should verify that the email address is valid and accessible on each device. Using a consistent email helps ensure updates are received properly.

It’s safe to use a single address. It connects both keys to that location and treats it as your Microsoft account, so your devices will consistently apply the same settings, emails, bookmarks, contacts, etc.
