I've been using the Asus RT-AX58U for a few days. I also configured it as a mesh node. Everything seems to function, except occasionally. Around once a day I lose the network or Wi-Fi completely and have to restart the router. The issue shifts—sometimes the LAN works but not the Wi-Fi, or only one port fails before everything stops after about ten minutes. Restarting resolves it instantly. My daughter gets frustrated when she loses internet during a class while I’m busy rebooting. This unpredictable downtime is becoming annoying. I’ve updated the firmware manually from Asus, but the device still reports a newer version is available. It seems stuck downloading it, even after multiple attempts. I see a new release posted yesterday (10/20) and plan to try it now. It doesn’t indicate a firmware update is needed, but I’m curious if this model has known issues. I’m considering returning it and buying a new one. I don’t mind the features as long as it stays online all day without daily reboots. If I decide to go back, I’d want my refund soon. I don’t want to keep troubleshooting for months and then deal with warranty or support from Asus. Since I started using the AIMesh, I’m thinking about switching to another router if possible—maybe a more reliable one. I remember the AT&T router was always stable for WiFi range, so it’s worth considering a different brand. But I’m open to other options if I can set up a mesh network. I realize, with the firmware update, I should give it another shot. This router was released in 2019, so one might expect more stable firmware over the years. For the last decade, we relied on the AT&T modem built into the router. While this model was great for extending coverage, it always performed well—though I probably rebooted it every few years. Questions about the RT-AX58U: - Is it worth buying another one (the kind Amazon offers as a replacement)? Could this be a hardware issue that a new unit won’t fix? Or if it’s software-related, would it affect all similar devices? Looking for recommendations: - Must support AC power
- Suitable for mesh networking
- Dependable performance
- Capable of handling 200+ Mbps with multiple users streaming or gaming simultaneously**

Following the firmware update, the issue recurred again. The RT-AX58U will likely stop working. I’m now managing the AC660U-B1 as my primary router and am hoping it performs better. Would this setup suffice for our needs (three heavy users on 200Mbit)? If yes, I might consider purchasing another unit to use as an AImesh node and keep a backup. Alternatively, a more powerful device would be better suited for a lower-end router. The RT-AX58U features a quad-core processor and more RAM compared to a dual-core model, but I’m not sure if that impacts performance for regular users.
