Hey everyone! I’m planning to get a GTX 1080 with 8GB RAM in the near future. My CPU is an i5-7500 with 3.4GHz and 144Hz for gaming at 1080p. The motherboard only supports Intel 6th and 7th generation chips. Should I upgrade my processor? I mostly play games on PC, mainly Rust and Rainbow 6.
Absolutely, a 7700k OC could become a limitation in titles such as R6. It might be better to switch to Ryzen 6/12 or 8700k for smoother performance.
According to nerdslayer1, a Ryzen would be a good choice. Staying on the same team means going with an Intel Core i7-8700K. Regardless, you'll need to replace the motherboard.
We understand this reason, so we recommended switching to a Mobo or settling for a 7700K.
You have options for upgrades. A 6700k/7700k fits but uses only 4 cores and 8 threads, often costing over $200. Another choice is a Ryzen 5 3600 at $190 plus a B450 motherboard around $100-110, providing a 6-core, 12-thread chip for improved performance without much extra expense. Prices are based on US rates. The GTX 1080 price isn’t specified here.
I'm from Europe, and the VAT rate is quite high. The price for 1080 would be approximately 189,000 units or about 572€.
It only required enough power for Black Ops 4. It performs much better than before, though frame count is noticeably lower. I’d choose the most affordable option that gives me the highest possible FPS and still leaves room to upgrade later. Probably not sticking around with a 1080p display for too long.
