While setting up my first gaming PC, I'm trying to match a Ryzen 3700X with the Asus ROG STRIX B450-F Gaming Board. The manufacturer lists it as compatible with the 3000 series on their site, but MWave in Australia says it's only 2000 series ready. I understand Asus provides USB BIOS flashing without installing the CPU, so does this board support that? If yes, will I need additional components besides a USB connection? I also recall AMD sometimes offers a second processor for updates, but I assume they're no longer doing that in Australia. I'm hoping for some advice. Also, unrelated but I've attached a picture of what I'm planning to purchase—please let me know if anyone spots any compatibility concerns I haven't mentioned Big Grin

Also worth mentioning, I could consider a light overclock. Would it be beneficial to invest the additional cost in an aftermarket cooler rather than relying on AMD’s built-in one?

If the board accepts it, the rear side will show a red indicator, and a Bios Flashback button will appear beside that red port.

It likely hinges on the product's age when buying. Trusted makers usually begin sending updated firmware once they verify compatibility and stability.

Nope They're still doing it, just dont know how long the shipping will take. there's a chance that it comes with BIOS updated for 3rd gen anyway, but no guarantees Not so much compatibility, but higher price than what you really need to pay (sometimes even inferior specs) The B450-F really needs the help of the stock cooler which is a downdraft in order to overclock the 3700X, at the same time the stock cooler doesnt fare well with an overclocked 3700x (heck even at stock it runs 80C+ and is somewhat audible), so if you want to run stock it's advised to get an aftermarket cooler when you can, and if you overclock (honestly not so much worth it as you'll get 100-200MHz extra at most) a better board is a must. Thanks a lot for the assistance—it's really helpful, especially since this is my first build. Is the motherboard already set up for the Ryzen 3000 series out of the box? Also, I wanted to note that the monitor was a mistake; I originally planned for a 1440p model but it’s currently out of stock, so I added the 1440p version to my cart and noted the price reference for my own.

Certainly, I'll include a brief mention of the BIOS update as well.
