Greetings yall, I' getting a little concerned about my new rig's cpu temp. I managed to overcolck it to 4,9 GHz with 1,45 core v. It stays 35-45 degrees C on idle which is fine I guess but with while gaming on ultra setting in 4k it goes up to 65-75 with ocasional split second spike to 80-83. Am I worrying for nothing or should I maybe turn the oc down a notch? Tried to do some research online but I'm finding very mixed results and opinions.

MSI Z370 Godlike Gaming + i7-8700k + be quiet! silent loop 360

Times are the higher end, but still secure for a rare surge. I'm more worried about voltage. You're essentially at the limit, and I wouldn't push it. Would you require 1.45v for consistency?

The readings are in the higher range, but still acceptable for a brief surge. Voltage is what worries me more. You're essentially at the limit, and I wouldn't even attempt that. Would you really need 1.45v for stability? No, thank you very much for asking—it's unclear what I was thinking. I must have been quite excited about finally assembling a new rig and didn't realize I pushed it too hard. I lowered it until the sounds stopped and the freezes stopped, then reached 1,375v. Obviously, the temperature dropped afterward, so spikes are now around 68°C instead of the usual 55-63°C.

That's quite an improvement. I'm using 1.385 for my 8700k. You are correct that with these CPUs, when you starting cranking the voltage, temps go up quick on them. Have you ran any other benchmarks to check for stability?

Running OCCT and CPU-Z now, guess I was a bit too hasty with joy. Shortly after I wrote my last reply I went to bathroom for sec and saw bsod upon coming back. We'll see what volt will I end up with, worst case I will have to deal with lowering multiplier.
Quick update, after some more tweaking turns out I am indeed dumb. I forgot to switch off auto tuning utility for the motherboard. After I disabled it finally got everything running good on 5000 mhz and core clock 1,35 volts. Temps are in upper 30 degrees C on iddle, while performing stress tests on OCCT and CPU-Z temps stay in range 59-68 with ocasional split spikes 71-73. Gaming ultra 4k everything sits nice and cosy in around 5 degree lower then in stress tests which makes me now very happy and relieved.
