Generally, it’s becoming simpler to locate two 2x kits together rather than a single 4x kit. However, some people still face challenges with this arrangement.

It’s not necessary, yet useful to review the motherboard specifications occasionally. If you’re unsure about the RAM kit you plan to use (preferably listed), then look through available options and verify if they can handle all four dimensions at higher speeds with multiple kits available. Sometimes the first and third slots that get used during a 4x setup can be weaker than the second and fourth, which are typically reserved for a 2x configuration. If only a few kits support all four dimensions according to the QVL, it’s likely fine, but if half the list works only with a 2x setup while running two channels, that could be an issue for you. What kind of board were you considering?

I received this kit for my project and it’s performing flawlessly. The key factor is timing at 16. It wasn’t worth the price for slightly improved sub-timings. The main distinction is that the cheaper option uses newer Hynix memory, while the pricier one uses older Samsung B-die memory that’s no longer produced. Most people claim it’s ideal for Ryzen, but spending 100% more for just 0.01% better performance didn’t seem right to me.

The cost gap is just enough to switch from a 3800x to a 3900x. I’d choose the more affordable option unless the build uses a 3900x or 3950x.
