I'm concerned the 5000 model might drop in price before the 7000 arrives. I usually wait for new releases rather than buying the latest ones when they drop. Think it's a waste of money.

It's possible but not guaranteed. Often, when a new CPU generation launches and an older socket reaches the end of its life, high-end CPUs rise in price while mid-range and lower-end models drop significantly.
