Hello everyone, please accept my apologies for coming from scratch here. I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to upgrade the ASUS TUF B450M- PRO Gaming motherboard BIOS before adding my new Ryzen 7 5700X. I’ve heard some users face issues after updating their BIOS and not being able to boot at all. Thank you for your help, and have a great day!

What processor do you currently have? Your board’s age might require an upgrade to run modern CPUs, so I’m checking your current model. The Ryzen 1000 series can become incompatible after certain updates; once upgraded, it won’t support older BIOS versions and will need a newer chip like the 5700X.

The 3000 model is acceptable; ensure you upgrade to the newest version. Check the manufacturer’s support page to confirm if you can directly access the latest BIOS or if earlier versions are required first. My X470 needed several flash updates before reaching supported BIOS versions for my 5000 models.

Ensure your existing CPU aligns with the new BIOS support—it's essentially the same as using the latest BIOS on your board, which is likely the situation here. Verify both components are compatible with the relevant BIOS update; if confirmed, proceed confidently. Otherwise, implement changes gradually according to the chip-support guidelines, even though this process remains manageable.

The 3400G stands a bit apart from other 3000 series CPUs—it's really a 2000 series model hidden inside. It might not be compatible with a 5000 series BIOS, so you should verify if a BIOS version supports both the 3400G and 5700x. If not, it’s fine, but keep in mind that updating your BIOS will require switching to the 5700x for your system to function properly, and you won’t be able to revert back unless your motherboard actually allows BIOS flashback even when the new BIOS fails (which is highly unlikely).
