My brand new gaming PC is actually setting up SteamOS right now because I don’t want to wait for Windows 8.1 (it got delayed). On the Steam site, they mention that installing SteamOS will erase your hard drive, but since my drive is clean and empty, it shouldn’t be an issue. When Windows finally shows up, I’ll wonder if I can install it without losing my SteamOS files. How would I do that?

During installation and choosing your storage device, you have the option to create partitions. For better security, consider using an operating system that supports partitioning, such as Gparted. It seems more reliable this way.
