Checking AMD drivers over 16.8.3 causes restarts during games, even after the latest AMD Relive 16.12.2 update.
I own an MSI R9 380 4gb with Amd driver 16.8.3. It performed well in all games at ultra settings—Witcher 3, Riot, Dark Souls 3, Doom, etc.—though the frame rate was lower than expected. After updating to drivers 16.9.1, my PC would reboot during gaming only, and even after installing 16.12.2, the issue persisted. I removed the drivers using DDU, performed a clean install, and tried various online fixes, but nothing resolved it. I’m the only one experiencing this problem right now. I even reinstalled Windows 8.1 64-bit as a last resort, hoping to try Relive, though it still fails. My performance was stable at 70-89 FPS while gaming, with idle times between 45-60 seconds. Specifics: PSU Corsair VS550, GPU MSI R9 380, CPU Intel I5-4460, RAM 2x4GB Kingston, HDD WD Blue 1TB. Recently fixed power supply issue resolved. Edited January 9, 2017 by neytanchu – Problem solved.
What kind of restart are you considering? Pause and then restart? See if the system freezes or displays an error? A black screen or a crash occurs? It might just jump back on its own. Maybe your power supply is the issue.
It's a corsair VS550. When I start Witcher 3 and open the game, Geralt appears for about three seconds before the system restarts. It works perfectly in the 16.8.3 driver, allowing me to play for extended periods.
It's possible your power supply unit isn't up to the task of newer drivers. I'm not sure how it functions, but you might want to check if your PSU can support the latest versions before purchasing a Seasonic G-750 80plus Gold.
