I possess my dxdiag at the end of this message because it contains substantial text. My graphics card has been overheating lately, so I attempted driver updates, checked the NVIDIA control panel for fan speeds, and everything else. It seems the fans aren’t rotating even when under heavy use. Temperatures climb to 98°C, then my display freezes. Here are some screenshots I captured. NVIDIA won’t allow me to adjust the fans at all, citing an error. The first photo shows performance under load. The second is after a clean restart with minimal open files. Any advice would be helpful, as I can’t afford a new GPU right now. I’ve re-applied the thermal paste using XTM60. Even during load, the fans won’t move. I also verified all connections are secure. ------------------ System Info ------------------ Report date: 12/30/2024, 14:46:41

Identify a problem with the GPU hardware. Check for failed fans or poor connections, or a non-functional header. Disassemble the card to verify fan connections and test them on a separate board fan header. This helps determine if the issue lies with the header or the fans themselves.

It seems like you're suggesting the fans are no longer functioning—just applying Occam's razor.

Did you update before or after the issue? Fan speed 0 might represent a hybrid mode where fans remain stationary at low temperatures. I recommend using software such as MSI Afterburner to monitor fan activity and verify proper operation. Edited December 30, 2024 by leclod

It's unlikely all three fans activated simultaneously, so I'd lean toward a GPU fan header in Hybrid mode not running at 98°C...

I wasn't anticipating this outcome. I composed this to request some assurance regarding the absence of fan rotation under load.

From the previous message, it seems fans never spin up and the GPU overheats reaching 98°C before shutting down. After that, he shares screenshots of usage during idle or just after startup, which appear normal.

I tested the flashlight on my PC at 98°C during a Marvel Rivals practice session. It turned off afterward. Recently, both fans spin when I power it up, but not once the system is fully running. This suggests a software issue. A clean install might be the simplest fix.

The best approach is to use MSI Afterburner and configure a fan curve. (Alternatively, FanControl works but is more complicated) Updated December 31, 2024 by leclod
