Hey, just finished a fresh setup of Windows 10 1511 after forced updates, but I didn’t want that. Anyone have tips on turning off and removing Windows Update Assistant completely? Also, how to stop those annoying pop-up messages? Thanks a lot!

1511 isn't approved and contains vulnerabilities. Choose 1709 instead.

I don’t mind any issues; I picked 1511 because it already has the lease amount built in. Used to turn off updates, and I can configure it exactly as needed. They also made changes in later versions that didn’t suit me and added features I’d rather not have.

Get the newest Windows 10 installation files via the Media Creation utility and use them instead. It’s better to obtain a fresh copy rather than stick with an old version, as you can easily get a free updated installer.

I don't need you to keep updating me. That wasn't the point of our conversation.

It refreshes automatically to keep your system secure for users who prefer to turn off updates. 2) Avoid new features by disabling, uninstalling, or ignoring them if you don’t want them. 3) Click the quote button when responding to others. | V

I understand security updates are important, but I’m unable to install them directly. I’m also unsure if you’ve seen that not all new features can be turned off or removed. While I might prefer the latest version, it doesn’t necessarily mean I want it. If I wanted the updates, I would install them, but I don’t.

Start by launching the start menu and entering "Services." Navigate to Services and scroll to locate Windows Update. Right-click on it and select Properties. In the drop-down menu, adjust the Startup Type to Disabled and click Apply. If the Stop button remains grayed out after applying, press Stop to halt the service. Close the window; Windows Update will be turned off. To re-enable later, return to Services and Windows Update properties, choose Automatic from the options, and confirm with Apply or OK. A video tutorial can walk through all settings in Windows 10 1511, focusing on disabling permanently unless you plan to reactivate it. In Windows 10 1709, after disabling, go to the Recovery tab in the service properties, set the failure counters to zero, and click Reset.
