My monitor has a resolution of 2560x1440 at 31.5 inches with a refresh rate of 165Hz and a refresh time of 1ms. After upgrading to an RTX 3080 12GB graphics card, I'm evaluating the performance bottleneck. My setup includes an MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX motherboard, 2x16GB 3600mhz CL18 RAM, and a Ryzen 9 3900X processor with PBO enabled. I'm considering switching to an Intel system with a Z690 DDR4 motherboard and an Intel Core i7 12700K CPU. I'm wondering if this change would improve overall speed and gaming performance. My current setup feels underutilized on the CPU side, while the GPU handles most calculations.
Some titles push GPU usage to 99%, while others reach around 70%. Cyberpunk 2077 feels intense on my GPU, and The Witcher 3 affects CPU performance too.
No delays here. Using a stronger CPU such as the 5900X, 5950X or an Intel 12th gen could give a bit more frames in games, but it's not worth the cost. For competitive FPS play, you should cap your FPS so your GPU stays under 90%—this helps smooth frame times and reduces input lag.
Thank you for your response and your guidance. I will skip that.
You'll often encounter those figures during any configuration. As mentioned, a quicker processor might assist a few people, though it's unlikely to make a big difference.
I upgraded from a 1600X to 3600, then to 5900X. None of those changes changed my life. Switching from single core to dual core felt natural, replacing HDD with SSD was smooth, moving from a single monitor to dual was easy, and upgrading from 1080p to 1440p was a big step. Going from 60 to 144 was noticeable.
