Hello, I recently sold a nearly finished setup on Vinted, including some good accessories like a keyboard and mouse, for $90. It was an older ThinkCentre M82 workstation with an i5-4670k processor, a GTX 1050 Ti graphics card, and 16GB of important DDR3 RAM. Everything else was original. The seller couldn’t install Windows because the machine kept crashing. When I upgraded to a new PC, I simply unplugged it and left it in a normal environment. Later, the buyer told me the CPU was damaged, even though they had previously seen it run perfectly without any issues. I’m puzzled about how this happened and am trying to understand what might have caused it. I hope I didn’t unintentionally sell a faulty device.

Welcome to the forums! Shipping PCs is a hazardous business. It's possible something jostled loose. You could potentially walk them through a full teardown and rebuild

I don't believe a delivery could lead to a CPU malfunction. That's not your concern.

Selling PC components can be tricky; it’s hard to predict issues like shipping damage, buyers testing the product, or simply wanting it no longer.

I understand everyone's perspective. It might have been an issue with shipping, or he could be trying to get past your trust. The CPU seems to be overheating yet still boots into BIOS, and only crashing sounds are unusual. EDIT: Would you like me to look for some evidence? Perhaps photos.

Sorry, the buyer I gave it to doesn’t have any knowledge of PCs, which makes it hard for me to help. They labeled me a scammer, so... yeah.

He insists the Lenovo logo shows up then disappears, sometimes working in BIOS and other times causing crashes. I’m also unsure if this matters, but he mentioned the same “faulty” PC before testing it, even though it was already known to be problematic.

It lacked an SSD so I couldn't really start up in the traditional way, but it turned on and functioned normally—fans were running and the GPU worked fine. Nothing unusual happened. I believe I should have run more tests beforehand, though I didn’t expect a PC to break just by sitting idle.

The seller has posted the computer for sale before noting any issues, which seems unusual.
