I'm facing a slow machine and thought upgrading RAM might help. HP pro 6300 SFF i7-3770 (non K) is an older setup, so the fastest RAM slot it supports. GTX 1050 ti with 4GB DDR3 memory and a 500GB SSD. Would adding 32GB more RAM really make a difference? I mainly use it for 1080p video work and some gaming, currently playing Destiny 2. P.S.: Besides the CPU, GPU, and RAM, what other upgrades could boost performance? Thanks in advance.

Using more RAM helps with video editing. I also got 32GB of memory on my previous gaming system, mostly because DDR3 was affordable at the time.

It could simplify certain video edits by adding many effects. Otherwise, keep your money and wait until the upgrade comes.

From my playthrough of Destiny 2, I’ve found that the RAM usage isn’t the main cause of slowdowns. The game actually runs smoothly on around 16GB of memory. Unless you need a hardware upgrade, there’s probably nothing else to boost performance beyond that.

Increasing the RAM beyond 16 GB won't improve your everyday computer performance.

For typical gaming, particularly with DDR3, 16 GB should handle most tasks smoothly. It makes sense to invest in a better motherboard, CPU, and switch to DDR4 rather than spending more on additional DDR3.

Check the task manager; if RAM isn't at full capacity, extra storage won't help much. For quicker performance, consider a fresh installation and clearing everything to ensure software isn't hindering. Focus first on the CPU or GPU.

For performance, consider a solid-state drive with at least 32GB of RAM. The I7 3770 remains a good choice. Upgrade past the GTX 1050 Ti for better results. A GTX 1070 would enable ray tracing, making it a compelling prebuilt option. Ensure your BIOS is current.
